Net Neutrality is becoming a growing issue in this ever evolving Internet world. Net Neutrality is a term used to describe the principle that Internet Service providers or the government should follow to allow all Internet users to access all content on the Internet without any restrictions or disturbance with certain sites. This is an unspoken agreement that an Internet service provider will never limit what a subscriber cab view, basically stating they they cannot turn the services to the Internet to that of television in which there are brackets to what they can enjoy.
Another example of net neutrality would be along the lines of Verizon and Google, in which due to Google creating the Android for just Verizon, there are thoughts that Google may provide better service to Verizon. If a person looking for a cell phone company types it in to the Google search engine, Google can break net neutrality by bringing up multiple links to Verizon and only Verizon. This can technically create a monopoly with businesses and in general is unfair to consumers and competitors.
An interesting thing I recall reading about previously was the note that BP oil purchased “Ad words” from Google during the Gulf Oil Spill which lead to only positive links that did not make BP look like a bad company. Check out the link I have posted for the article, it is pretty ridiculous thinking that businesses can get away with this kind of business tactics now a days.
Great post, Mike. This is really an eye opening subject - and very interesting article on BP Oil!
